Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area

While not the most scenic of our hikes, the Wind River Hiking Crew completed a seven mile hike of the Carlos Avery Wildlife Management Area near East Bethel. It’s completely flat, so pretty easy hiking. And as a WMA, Luka enjoyed being off leashed for the entirety of the hike. We heard, but we not able to spot the Sandhill Cranes, affectionately known as EBUBs (Extremely Big and Ugly Birds) by Jason. Luka managed to send a small flock of trumpeter swans into a majestic flight, and flushed a pair of pheasants, as well. The hike was capped off at the most hospitable Smokey’s Pub and Grill in the small hamlet of East Bethel, where the service was welcoming and the BBQ delicious.
